Comedy

just watched "Mr. Bean's Holiday" and I can't help but ask, "Why people laugh at the misfortunes of others?"
All I can see while watching the movie are the misfortunes of Mr. Beans.
As fas as I know misfortunes are sad and terrible matters. It can be all but funny. At least, if I am at the shoes of Mr. Bean I will not be happy or gay. I will definitely be in despair.
Or maybe comedy is there to remind us that some people are experiencing worse things than us. Then, that is fun. Because there is no greater consolation for us than the idea that someone is suffering more than we are right now.
Or maybe comedy is there to teach us that we should just laugh at life in general. You know, life is full of misery. And so laughing at other's misery will give us the idea that we should laugh at ours too.
Now, that is a pityful fate for mankind.
